Ah'ta'apq Creek Hydro Project

A Greener Future Awaits...

Making the Switch

Hesquiaht First Nation has been seeking alternative energy sources to diesel for 30 years.  Not only is the use of diesel, not a green energy source but the transport of diesel and other lubricants was a huge risk to the environment as well as financially draining.  The switch to hydro power will reduce the costs alone by 67% with added benefits such as confidence in contributing to a greener planet and safety of the ocean and surrounding wildlife!

Creating Opportunities

The Ah'ta'apq creek hydro project was also able to create 20 short-term jobs and 5 long-term. The Hesquiaht First Nation at Hot Springs Cove has made a successful transition from an expensive, dirty, noisy, and unreliable diesel-driven generator to Sustainable Clean Energy that relies upon renewable hydroelectric power.   The Ah’ta’apq Creek plant harnesses energy from the local rushing waters of the Creek and provides for the energy needs of the village. Hot Springs Cove is an example of how clean energy projects have proven to be a cost-effective sustainable solution for providing the energy needs of isolated communities.

Peace & Quiet for Hesquiaht!

Hot Springs Cove is an example of how clean energy projects have proven to be a cost-effective sustainable solution for providing the energy needs of isolated communities.    The project cost was $4.1 million dollars, however in the first year of use, clean hydroelectric power has already saved Hot Springs Cove $375,000 in diesel bills alone... as well as given the village some much-needed peace and quiet, clean air, and warmer winters to come.
